Here we are, getting deeper into december, but for this week's edition of #FridayInspo, it was hard to think of anything else other than palm trees, the beach, the sun, warm weather and art gallery hopping. I'm in Miami for Art Basel and so far it's amazing. I've been basking in the kind of warmth only the Sunshine State could provide two weeks before Christmas, as well as really, really fantastic art-related events. It's incredibly inspiring to be uncovering a whole new side of the city that isn't South Beach, and let me tell you: it has nothing to do with the ostentatious glitz & glam the SB section is infamous for -- there is a whole other layer to this place that sadly rarely gets credited. Miami is more than skin and clubs! As a result, seeing as my weekly mood boards are an extension of where my mind is at, it means that the images below are all about sunshine, beach, summer and hot weather. Don't worry, I'll resume holiday and winter inspo next week, but for now, it's all about heat. Make sure to follow my shenanigans on the usual suspect: good ol'instagram, i promise you, if you don't you'll miss out on tons of fun!

Ask FOR #1
Last week, I announced the launch of AskFOR and I'm incredibly excited to be starting this new column where you can write in for fashion and beauty advice. I'm super eager to reveal my best tips and tricks based on what you want to know and couldn't be happier to report that so far the response has been nothing short of positive. One of the things that has been coming up a lot was for me to reveal my beauty routine and I am more than happy to oblige -- I've discovered a few gems over the years and it's only fair that I should share that with you! However, seeing as I am currently traveling (follow on the Instagram for live updates), my schedule did not exactly allow for the type of elaborate post I am planning on creating for this column... Fret not, there is a major silver lining.
I was recently interviewed by the lovely and inspiring Elizabeth from A Lover's Anthology. If you don't know her blog, I suggest you check it out immediately -- she's an amazing writer, beautiful beauty guru and an inspirational motivation-inducer. I was very honored when she asked me to reveal a little bit about myself and my beauty routine as a part of her mission to promote women solidarity, yet more so extremely excited to participate. Lucky for me, the timing happens to coincide with my first #AskFOR, so click here to head on over an read all about my favorite skin care and makeup products, it's everything you want to know and more, promise -- and get acquainted with an amazing fellow blogger that I am lucky to call my friend!

Bring Brown Back
Rarely do people really give the color brown a chance. It usually gets banished as a gross color, for lack of a better word, and is often overlooked because of dated style rules that simply no longer apply to today's broken fashion boundaries. Our grandmothers had no idea what they were talking about! In short, I think people just aren't sure how to wear it, therefore they've given up on it. It's seldom worn, with the exception of leather accessories, but I strongly believe that it is way underrated. Black and brown together? Super chic! It also goes a very long way with other hues too -- brown and navy, brown and white, brown and dusty pink, brown and metallic. You can't go wrong, really.
The trick with brown is that you've gotta get the right shade. A deep, sensuous cocoa color is akin to navy, chic-wise, in my humble book of opinions. In my efforts to revive the color brown, I decided to don a default heritage outfit: my finest Canadian tuxedo. The darkish double denim provided an ideal blank canvas for my best chocolate colored pieces, and keeps it young, fun and playful without compromising on chic. Lastly, as you could probably have predicted that I was going to mention: keeping it simple is key, as per usual. Are you a brownophobe? How would you wear it?

'Tis The Season... For Sleepwear
Aaahh, the holidays... Here's the scenario: sundown, fun decorations scattered everywhere, festive lit up tree, your best balsam fir candle flickering away, hot cocoa with marshmallows, Christmas cookies within arm's reach, crackling fire in the corner, gentle snowflakes tumbling down outside your window, you're all bundled up in your coziest knit throw and you're watching Home Alone snuggled against the person you love. BUT WHAT ARE YOU WEARNG?! There is no better time to invest in some real sleepwear and to throw away your old raggedy college sweats. Not only will it complete the picture, but you'll feel so great on your couch, knowing that you're in grown up pajamas.
I happen to be a sleepwear aficionado. I love to be cozy and comfortable, and admittedly, I am very much a homebody. It may not be cool, but most times, I'd rather be home than out and about at events. Don't get me wrong, I love a good party... just not necessarily every night like some of my friends. So being comfortable indoors is pretty high on my priority list. There's no better time than the holiday season to gear up for winter where, let's be honest, you'll be nesting way more than any other time of year. Lucky for you, I've rounded up some of the season's coziest, most stylish indoor garb for you to frolic around in.

Street Chic
If we're friends on the Facebook or Insta, then you know that I was in Miami last week for Art Basel. I'd been toying with the idea of attending the Sunshine State's art gathering for some time now and boy, did I not regret it. One of my best girls just moved back to miami this past summer, so it was also the perfect excuse to pay her a visit. I'll be sharing more of my pics in a post later this week, so keep checking back for lots of street art and other shenanigans.
Moving along, one of the season's big trends is the flippy skirt, or the frill skirt, or the flounce skirt, or the ruffle skirt -- whatever you wanna call it. It's a skirt, it's mini, and there are lots of rounded folds that make it look full. I think that would be an accurate description. Anyway, it's one of those really feminine pieces that can go cutesy in a half second... and that's not exactly my style, but for some reason, I gravitate towards that shape. Therefore to wear it, it needs to be counter balanced. The top I'm wearing for this look is actually a suede men's tank, so it's got that ideal oversized slouch. Heels could have worked in this case, like a bootie, but for ogling art and gallery hopping, I needed to be in flats and the season's other big trend, the slip-on sneaker, acted as the cherry on my sartorial sundae.

Miami Art Basel 2013
I apologize in advance if art isn't your thing, but you may still find something interesting in these pics, like say, what I was wearing will looking at the art in question. I mentioned yesterday that I'd be posting about my trip to Art Basel this week and I've decided to break it down into 3 different posts (or 4 if you count yesterday's), since there were so many photos and narrowing it down wasn't an option I was willing to consider. I'm sure you'll thank me, because one of the major points for me to even attend this reunion of creative forces was to share my experience with you and to have you join me in my awestruck state.
I'd been to Miami countless times before, but admittedly, my visits never saw me veer too far from the South Beach vicinity outside from the ride to and from the airport. So what the actual city had to offer besides amazing parties, beautiful beaches, lots of skin and silicone body parts completely eluded me. That is no longer the case: you guys, Miami is so amazing beyond its infamous Ocean Drive/Collins Avenue strip. And I have a hunch that it has its creativity and design legacy to thank for its current burgeoning art scene. Sure, it's the North American mecca of Latin flair and trust me, one of the highlights of my week was having an authentic Cuban meal (sorry, no pics of that -- I was too busy feasting), but it is also a place that is known for its architecture (art deco, anyone?), its ultra-specific design aesthetic, as well as its major art power players, whether it's the street scene or private collections.
While Art Basel has been around since the early aughts, it's been getting more and more traction in the last few years. Not sure what it's attributed to, but one could guess that the Florida sunshine, palm trees and the people's penchant for fêting has something to do with it. Although once you're there, the art events alone are reason enough to want to stay and marvel. If you're remotely interested in that world, but not exactly a buyer (like myself), there is SO MUCH to see, if not the free galleries, all the street art in the Wynwood section, or the pop-up events going on just about everywhere from the design district to SoBe. And lest we forget the funner-than-fun fashion parties. It's no secret that art and fashion have canoodled for centuries, fashion even often being considered one of art's many branches, so it makes perfect sense that brands would want to generate some hype by being present at one of the year's biggest creative gatherings. I had no idea that Wynwood was essentially a life size legal street art canvas. It was seriously mind-blowing, i don't really know how else to put it...
In part one of my Art Basel recap, you'll find me reunited with my girl Lisa, a true local who just moved back there and proved to be the best tour guide ever -- btw, watch out for her new Wynwood store, MiMo Market coming May 2013!! -- where we took great pleasure in gallery hopping, checking out the night street art scene, and basking in the incomparable sunshine. More Basel Adventures
Hopefully you saw yesterday's post and liked it as much as I loved preparing it. Now it's time to move on to the second part of my journey in the city where the heat is on. My visit was actually split in half with a one-day jaunt to Key West, which was really incredible for a few reasons: 1) key lime pie is one of my favorite desserts 2) it was my first time sipping out of a fresh coconut 3) it is the land where roosters roam free, apparently 4) the architecture is just beautiful, with a perfect beach-town-meets-new-england vibe 5) I learned that it's a super laid-back, gay-friendly town 6) we visited the most mind-blowing tropical garden, other wise known as the Key West Garden Club 7) we were there to encourage our friends who were doing the triathlon (which, btw, confirmed that I would probably never partake in one) 8) outside of the Mardi Gras-reminiscent main drag, the place is all charm. Phew, that's a lot of reasons to love Key West right there! But as mentioned, we were only there for the day and got back to Miami right on time to hit some parties and see more artwork.
On Art Basel's last day, we made it to the Wynwood Walls during sunlight (we'd usually go there at nighttime, which is a completely different experience) and I was so moved to see an entire gallery space dedicated to women in street art. Major girl power. These women are incredible and so talented and make their mark in an industry that is not exactly considered to be dominated by females. We need girls like this! Below you will find the photos of the beautiful day spent at the southernmost point, as well as my last pics of the art I felt compelled to immortalize. And tomorrow? The R&R (read: beach) portion of my trip... Stay tuned.

Party R&R In the City Where the Heat Is On
Today's post completes my Art Basel adventures (see my other posts here, here and here) and it's not really about the art anymore, but more about post Basel wellness, as the sign in the last picture states... Once the whole thing was over, we wasted no time heading to the beach for some well-deserved R&R at the Soho Beach House. Our activities there consisted of nothing more than filling our bellies with delicious, fresh food, lounging at a stone's throw of the ocean, drinks garnished with mini umbrellas in hand, while devouring a really good
The water was a perfect shade of aqua and the sky clear blue with nary a cloud in sight. It. Was. Paradise. And what would a trip to the beach be without a few pictures of my frolicking in the waves in my favorite ViX Paula Hermanny bikini? All said and done, it was such a memorable trip and I'm still dreaming of that view from the lounge chair...

Ask FOR #2: Holiday Lashes
This second installment of #AskFOR comes in right on time for the holidays and is a special request from one of my girl friends who also suffers from CES (Crappy Eyelash Syndrome). However, hear this my ladies: there is a way to rival false lashes, even if you don't think nature gave you the necessary tools. Are you a mascara and lash curler hoarder? Do you find yourself feeling envious of Daddy Long Legs instead of screaming for dear life when you spot them crawling up your wall? (ok that was gross, sorry.... but you get the point). I am going to show you how to get the longest, most luscious and luxurious eyelashes for all your upcoming holiday festivities. Caution: you may have to fend off a lot of jealous stares. Ok, i kid. Onward!
MYTH: You can't fake long voluminous eyelashes.
FACT: I always get a ton of compliments on my long voluminous eyelashes (seriously, even from my eye doctor).
FACT: I don't actually have long voluminous eyelashes. Or dark ones, for that matter. I have thin, flimsy, blond, poor excuses for lashes.
There you have it -- myth debunked. I suppose that through the years of trying to make up for what i lack in the lash department, I've become a pro at faking a bounty of luscious lid locks. The number of mascaras that have come and gone through my makeup case since I started experimenting is outrageous, but it's safe to say that all those trials have served me right: I will show you the ultimate way I have discovered to attain supreme lashes that will make you forget all about perusing the faux lash section at your local CVS. And it's a matter of 3 (disguised as 4) small, well worth it steps. Here is what we're working with, folks, the BEFORE shot. Scary!
Here's the breakdown:
STEP 1 -- Curl. You may think eyelash curlers are super 80s, or look too much like torture devices, but trust me, the eyelash curler is your best friend. I kind of think that this step is crucial in maximizing your length capacity, and it'll also set the foundation for opening up your entire face. I prefer the small plastic one as opposed to the more well-known metal clamp one because not only does it travel really well, but I find that it gives you more curl control. You can also use it on your lashes even you're already wearing mascara. I use (and loooove) the Japonesque Go Curl Pocket Eyelash Curler. This is what I recommend for your holiday lash look.
Step 2 -- Mascara #1. That's right -- if your eyes are gonna fake it 'til they make it, you're gonna need more than 1 wand. Skeptical? Allow me to explain: ever notice how different mascaras claim different things? That's because the brush and formula are expertly crafted for that specific attribute, whether it's for more volume, longer length, more definition, etc. Personally, what i look for is length and volume. For volume i use YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in Noir Radical. It's AMAZING. The brush is plump and thick and the formula is so dense that it basically adds all the drama you could ever want. To me, it blows the ubiquitous Diorshow out of the water. It's THAT good. So i start by applying a VERY LIBERAL coat of this formula for volume, almost as a base. But let's not stop there.
Step 3 -- Mascara #2. LENGTH. Lengthy lashes will make you look more youthful, will make your eyes pop and will give you a more intense gaze without fail. On the daily, i would choose length over volume (but in a perfect world, i would have both at all times). Anyway, the winner in that department for me is -- drumroll, please -- Lancôme Hypnôse. Here is why: Not only is it incredibly lengthening (seriously, i don't know how they made that brush, but it really manages to trap every last piece of hair on your lash line), but it is also a very defining formula, i.e. it separates and declumps. I use the special Precious Cells formula because it conditions the lashes and makes them stronger (something i so desperately need, i assure you).
Here's a very important pointer: as you're taking the wand out of the tube, wiggle its tip onto the opening to get rid of the excess gunk and use the tip to brush your lashes individually; this will help separate them nicely and avoid clumps.
So at this point you've already applied your volume, and now you're adding length and definition. Get ready for your eyes to look wide open! I have to say, you have to be EXTREMELY liberal with your application. Once you've done that, go back to the volume formula to cake more on at the roots to add thickness. You have to make sure you act fast enough when you're going back and forth with your mascaras because you want to add as many coats as you can before it dries. Once the mascara dries, it's basically game over and the only thing you'll be doing is getting clumpy.
And more power to you if you don't even need mascara at all and you were genetically blessed with dark, thick, mile high lashes. I

I'd love to know what mascaras you swear by or if you've tried any of the products I'm recommending!

Ask FOR #3: What to Wear for NYE
New year's eve is supposed to be a time of celebration and partying, however, it can often become more of a stressful mess than the former. Which is why the last thing you want to fuss over is your outfit: while you want to look nothing less than amazing, you should definitely not break out in hives at the thought of NEEDING to put together the most perfect festive look you've ever worn. All your attention should be focused on your plans: making them, enjoying them, figuring out the logistics of your night, being able to let loose and having the time of your life surrounded by people with the exact same intentions.
That said, what you are wearing is important and should not be an afterthought and I'm just here to make it a tad easier for you. I've devised eight different looks -- each with completely different vibes -- that you can draw inspiration from while you're reaching into your own closet. Surely you'll find something in there that is similar to some of the pieces below. And while it's too late to order anything online, you still have two days to run to the store and complete your "this is what I'll be ringing the new year in!" look. So read on, to break a few style rules: 'tis the season to shine, to be daring and to have fun, nothing below is for the faint of sparkle!
Ready? Ok. This first look is kind of flirty and dressy and I'm simply mad over those half cuff/half drop earrings, which are a show-stopper within themselves. Don't be afraid to mix your metals, this is the perfect time to do it: it adds another dimension to your getup and lets people know that you know what you're doing -- only rule followers abide by that silly archaic rule.
Next we have something a little more edgy, with a jumpsuit that is sure to turn heads. Mess your hair up a tad with some Bumble texture cream (we learned about that in my hair post) and give yourself a smokey eye to add glam. Paired with the strappiest of strappy shoes and a show-stopping leather bomber, you'll stand out wherever you go (in a good way).
People generally associate dark colors with eveningwear. And they're right - certainly you'll be seeing a lot of black everywhere you go (and tons of navy, burgundy, etc). So why not throw yourself (and your cohorts) a curveball and shine even brighter in pastels! You'll be giving yourself an accomplice wink every time you catch your reflection in a mirror, trust.
This look is for the rock 'n roll girl. Yes, it consists mainly of black, but it's all about the satin shirt creating all the sensual shine you need for a hardy party (or to party hardy, depending on how you look at it). Deep purple pout, fur and leather, nothing says effortless fête chic like these off-duty staples. Champagne, anyone?
Clearly, this next look is for those who are lucky to be celebrating in a warmer climate. It's a super fun twist on the black and white trend and it's everything sexy and playful.
This next look is for the girlie girl. Something flirty and fancy is always appropriate to watch the ball drop... And the perfect time to pull out your favorite dress is without a doubt the last day of the year. That crazy sparkly number you keep around "in case you ever get invited to a fancy cocktail dinner party"? THIS IS THE TIME AND PLACE FOR IT. Go crazy! Go nuts! Go big (or go home)! That satin turban you've been saving for a rainy day? The time is now! Add a cat eye an some major drop earrings for extra glam.
The next look also caters to the rock 'n roll girl, this option being more sequin-heavy. Emerald green is such a refreshing, luxurious color, it only feels natural to make it the focal point of the outfit. The only thing more luxe is a sultry nude lip. Oh, and snake print, of course.
Finally, we have a feminine preppy option that will certainly ensure jealous stares coming at you from every angle. You cannot go wrong with monochromatic shimmery pink to ring in the new year. You just can't.
Which one's the most "you"? Now with all that said and done, what are your plans for the 31st?
PS don't forget to send in your questions, they just might be the next #AskFOR subject! XX

The Year In (Outfit) Review
WHAT.A.YEAR. No really, it's been pretty crazy, I feel like so much happened in both my personal and professional lives. It was almost cathartic to go through the blog, seeing the evolution form the beginning of 2013 to the end, seeing how my posts have changed over the course of twelve months, which directly reflects the change in me and the shift in perspective of Fashion Over Reason. This is the year where it went from being my most beloved hobby to my full-time job and it's entirely mirrored in the content. Going from more of an inspiration blog to a personal style blog, I was just reminded of all the fun I had doing it and all the hard work that was put into it as well.
But what's a better way to look ahead than by having a glimpse at what you're leaving behind? Here is my year in outfits, proving yet again that clothing is so emotional, as I was reliving every single moment I experienced in each getup when seeing these photos. My clothes told the story of all of the fun stuff I've done this past year, my travels (Oscars! Antigua! DC! Mohonk! Montreal! Skaneatles! Boston! Miami!), and the moments enjoyed with the friends and family I was lucky to be surrounded by. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being faithful readers, for being on this adventure with me, for telling me what you love and what you hate and for being my partners in crime. I'm so excited to take everything to the next level in 2014 and looking forward to so many amazing things.
Tell me, do you have any favorites?!

Winter Pastels (& Win My Scarf!)
However gentle the flakes were, it didn't do much for my lid, which, as you can tell, is sopping, but that was hardly the point of taking advantage of the outdoors and capturing what could be considered wintertime camo. Fashion is fun and being a little bit rebellious with the old rules not only felt completely natural, but it just confirmed yet again that yesteryear's sartorial doctrines are nothing but antiquated.
So next time snow hits your area, don't be shy to reach for your best soft pink top, dusty blue trousers, white denim, seafoam green scarf and stroll along with your head held up high and your face plastered with a knowing grin that you are indeed a rebel with a cause...
And SPEAKING of seafoam green scarves: I liked mine so much that I wanted to give one of you the chance to enjoy it too! I teamed up with the lovely people of Bindya to make sure one of my readers could also partake in winter pastels (and spring, and summer, and fall!)... Secret Agent
There's really no getting around feeling like a double agent in a getup like this. Black and white, incognito sunglasses, leather briefcase-like tote, well, the proof is in the pudding, you can see it for yourself. I'm not much for wearing color and I wasn't planning on breaking my neutral streak in any way when heading to a friend's post-Christmas party a couple of weeks ago. In fact, it actually turned out to be a crazy night and whatever style sharpness I had going for me that day was completely diluted into a hot mess in the hours that followed. But I'll save that story for a rainy day.
Moving along, this tuxedo coat was a Christmas present from my ever so wonderful tender half. Admittedly, I did pick it myself, but the thought was there nonetheless. Even though my life is essentially laid out on the interwebs for the whole world to see, it's still just easier to straight up make a request, since sometimes men find themselves in a pickle when trying to shop for their ladies, am I right or am I right? That way, gift-receiving is always a guaranteed success. Just kidding, presents should be thoughtful affair, I agree.
