Fashion Over Reason in Santa MonicaYSL men's shirt, Ann Taylor striped shorts, Jeffrey Campbell x Free People pointed toe slides, Ray-Ban Lennon sunglasses

I am well aware that I often repeat myself on this blog. That's because I believe that certain style commandments never cease to apply and that are constantly relevant. One of those things happens to be my unwavering enthusiasm for footwear and I simply cannot reiterate this enough: shoes are e v e r y t h i n g. As in, EVERYTHING. As in, the be-all and end-all.

Which means that your outfit is simply not complete until you've slipped something onto your feet. Your shoes will literally dictate the big picture: are you dressed up? Casual? A tomboy? A vamp? You pickin' up what I'm puttin' down here?

Take this very simple outfit comprised of wide bermuda shorts and an oversized men's shirt - on the one hand (above), I am Santa Monica chic thanks to my pointed toe slides, and on the other (below), I am totally transformed into a kind of put-together office lady with my nude heels. Two pairs, two sides of the pendulum, two vibes, one outfit.

Keaton Row x Fashion Over Reason, @heleneisfor

A few weeks ago, my Instagram relayed that I was shooting some really cool spring/summer looks with Keaton Row, an awesome personal styling agency. Shooting around New York is always so much fun, primarily because the sensation you get from feeling like you're the star of the show amidst the bustling city street cannot accurately be described in words.

Seeing as photo shoots are super fun, I thought I'd bring you some of the behind-the-scenes action shots. We did loads of looks that included pieces from great brands like Loeffler Randall, Equipment, Whistles, Theory, MiH, Milly and Clare V, among others. There's always lots of goofing off between takes, especially when it gets to be later in the day and everyone's attention span has slowed down.

Hope you enjoy the sneak peek and I'll hopefully have the real photos for you at some point in time. Do you have a favorite look?

White H&M off the shoulder top, Gap denim mini skirt, Whipping Post tan leather tote

It's no secret that I am more of a minimalistic dresser than an eclectic one, however, I do like to indulge in some of-the-moment pieces every season to keep things fresh. So long as you're not in head-to-toe trends - honey, no one wants to be a victim - spicing things up with newness is what makes style exciting, isn't it? Yes.

Example: this off-the-shoulder top is a super trend. Seriously, shoulder cleavage is everything right now. But in true preferred subdued form, I paired it with a super classic denim mini and leather tote bag, while I straddle the line between classic and overkill with my footwear: the ubiquitous Stan Smith. Not too much and just enough.

Fashion Over Reason casual jeans and a tee, J Brand 8112 CLOSE CUT RAIL jeans, Loeffler Randall sandals

I've been kind of over the skinny jean for a while, as you know. What was once the avant-garde style is now considered to be a regular run-of-the-mill model that every brand carries every season. So yeah, it's just become a basic, which I'm all about... But what is really getting me excited right now is different denim styles.

There are all kinds of washes and shapes currently tugging at my hear strings, and I especially fell for this pair of J Brands. And in true casual form, here's my regular denim and tee combo.

Plaza Hotel, Helmut Lang jacket, Tibi pants, Stuart Weitzman booties, New York City

The thing about New York is that the second you step foot into a different neighborhood, you feel as though you've just traveled 10 hours to another world. Every single area has its distinctive identity, and its own entirely unique vibe.

I always joke about how I feel out of place when I hang out on the Upper East Side - which doesn't happen very often, let it be clear - because I am such a no fuss Brooklyn girl. Nothing about me is fancy and strolling down Fifth Avenue, crossing hoards of humans who undoubtedly belong to long lines of thoroughbred family pedigree, it's impossible not to feel the divide.

But, I will say, I kind of love it. It sort of lets me unabashedly and shamelessly give right into my voyeuristic tendencies. I am endlessly fascinated by how people live, especially the very rich. And on an evening this summer, we mixed and mingled among them, as we stepped foot onto their turf and ogled like spectators at a zoo exhibit. But in true Brooklyn style, we made our big arrival via - what else? - the good ol' faithful subway.

The Five Minute Face With Geri G.

Geri G. Beauty and Skincare, Transceutical Canvas, Innocent Foundation, Plush Mascara, Lip Gloss Crème

I am sure that I am not alone when I say that I am constantly on the lookout for beauty products that will fit my lifestyle, be good for my skin and that actually enhance my appearance. Not an easy feat, since there is an ocean of them that claim different miracle solutions.

As a person with very sensitive skin that often has a bad reactions to things I put on my face, I have to be extremely careful and selective of what I buy. And when I find something I like, I feel like it's my responsibility as a woman to spread my knowledge to you, my compadres.

Geri G. Beauty and Skincare, Transceutical Canvas, Innocent Foundation, Plush Mascara, Lip Gloss Crème

Skin care and makeup are usually two different ball games, but to be winners in my books, they must not be mutually exclusive. I have to feel good about what I apply to my skin and having skincare components to cosmetics is the ultimate holy grail.

It also must be said that, ironically, I'm seeking to look more and more natural as I age, because I always feel a bit ancient when I have too much stuff on my face. I absolutely loathe that caked on look, and truth be told, I just don't have time in the morning for an extensive makeup routine. I don't have the patience to be in my bathroom for more than five minutes to be applying makeup.

Geri G. Plush Mascara

In thinking that I am not the only one with all this strict beauty product criteria, I do feel like I need to share my knowledge when I find some gems, and this is precisely what this blog post is about. I recently discovered a brand that is out of LA called Geri G and it has kind of changed my whole beauty routine, the reason being that the line is pretty much skincare and makeup all in one.

Basically you can feel good about what you're putting on your face, it saves time in the morning, and Geri created the line to enhance natural beauty, as every product feels incredibly natural on the skin.

I was lucky to get my hands on 4 of the products from the line, which I've integrated seamlessly into my routine and quite honestly become slightly obsessed with. Here's a breakdown of what you see in the photos:

Transceutical Canvas

This is basically a moisturizer and primer all in one, as it preps your skin for what comes next. It has an amazing texture, goes on completely smooth and smells absolutely divine. Leaves my face smooth, soft and glowing and allows foundation to take perfectly to my face.

Innocent Foundation

The most lightweight and non-oily foundation I've ever used. It provides the perfect coverage without feeling cakey. The kicker? It's incredibly long-lasting.

Plush Mascara

This is not the Mascara you use to have night-out disco lashes, but rather the lash lengthening formula you want to use on the daily to look like yourself.

Lip Gloss Crème

Literally the most perfect shade of nude peach ever. Not only is the color perfect, but it's also super hydrating, which is highly unusual in a gloss.

I also made a little video to demonstrate exactly what I'm talking about. How to be out the door in 5 minutes. It's not a joke.

Comme des Garçons Play top, AC x AG jeans skirt, Free People x Jeffrey Campbell pointed toe slides

If you're looking for a twist on the classic denim mini this summer, you can call off your search party: button fronts are where it's at. It's a part of that whole 70's revival, which is happening in a big way at the moment, in case you haven't noticed.

So to offset a super trendy-trend item (ironically a throwback at once) - the skirt - a classic striped shirt with a fun twist (can't think of anything funner than the CDG Play heart) becomes the ideal partner. Because you wouldn't want to go overboard with the hotter-than-hot pieces. Forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but no one wants to look like a victim (the fashion kind).

Fashion Over Reason shooting with Keaton Row on the High Line in NYC

Remember last month when I was shooting all over New York City with the lovely folks over at Keaton Row? Well, I am happy to report that the relationship is ongoing and that they invited me back for another shoot a few weeks ago, where more fantastic summer looks were created and shot on the mean city streets.

Because everyone loves behind-the-scenes action, I've acquired some photos taken from behind the professional lens to be able to share this great experience with you. And because the the outfits were so awesome, I've decided to break down the posts for each one, should you want to be inspired and shop the pieces.

A crisp linen summer shirtdress by Joie is the star of this first look, complete with THE summer shoe of the season: Soludos espadrilles. We roamed the High Line to capture the freshness. Shirtdresses are a must-have this season, so get yours now!

Totally with you on this subject matter: a glimpse at what goes on behind the scenes can sometimes be even better than seeing the final result.

Which is precisely why I'm breaking down the shoot I did with Keaton Row a few weeks ago by outfit, instead of presenting you the whole loot of pics in one big blog post. (See part 1 here)

This second look we did straddles the line between fun and profesh - kind of could swing both ways and could transition from the summer months into fall really well, too. Feels fresh but not flimsy, you know?

Yumi Kim floral maxi dress in NYC

This silhouette basically encapsulates the essence of summertime - it's pretty much appropriate for anything when it's hot outside. Everything from the office to errand day to summer BBQ. The possibilities are endless.

Vintage floral top, vintage leather mini skirt, high-top gladiator sandals, Ray-Ban Lennon sunglasses, suede pouch

You guys certainly know by now that I ain't exactly a print aficionado. However, I sometimes make exceptions, depending on how I'm feeling and what my eye tells me: you may be surprised to learn that I find some prints to, in fact, be quite pleasing.

Take for example the floral top I'm wearing here. There's something intrinsically cool about it. It has a really interesting architectural shape, the blooming pattern has a very oriental feel to it, and it's one of those vintage finds that I've acquired over the years and that I've now had for many moons without tiring of it.

Taking into account all of those factors (shape, feel, fit, vibe, etc), plus the fact that a print this busy still hasn't gotten on my last nerve, as they usually tend to, and you've got a winning garment in my very exclusive book (I kid, I kid, I'm not that exclusive).

Haven't done one of these in a while. Mostly because I haven't had the time and partly because I haven't been inspired. We're already well into August and my mind is concentrated solely on how to squeeze every last drop out of summer while the countdown to Labor Day begins. Le sigh. Enjoy the mood board, friends.

Geri G. Transceutical Canvas face cream on the We Are Summer Marfa throw

Remember a few weeks back when I talked about makeup routines and introduced you to one of my new favorite cosmetics/skincare brands, Geri G.? Well, I love it so much that I want you guys, my amazing faithful readers to see for yourselves how fantastic it is.

Geri G. Transceutical Canvas cream

I've teamed up with Geri herself - an amazing woman, FIY - to give away F I V E (!!!) of her sublime face lotions, the Transceutical Canvas. It's basically a miracle cream that acts as a primer, moisturizer and night cream all at once. It actually feels so great and light under makeup, I put it on every morning. Oh, and it smells absolutely divine.

Fashion Over Reason + Geri G. give away

The way I'd describe the scent would be a subtle orange blossom, in no way too perfume-y, just enough to feel refreshing and oh so pleasant. The product itself is incredibly gentle on sensitive skin. I've mentioned before how sensitive my skin is and how I break out really easily, so finding skincare lines that my skin can handle can prove to be challenge. This product has smoothed out my complexion and leaves it glowing and hydrated.

Geri G. Transceutical Canvas on Marfa with flowers

I'm so excited to share this product with 5 of you! The give away is open internationally so enter your little heart out below with one click and be on your merry way.

Give away closes Sunday August 16th end of day. Good luck!

Fashion Over Reason Reformation jumpsuit, Nina Ricci satin mules

You guys, who doesn't love a good jumpsuit?! I personally love them beyond words but for some reason I only own one, this exquisite little number by Reformation that I would wear every day if I could. It's as comfy as PJs but wayyyy more chic.

It also works just as great with either heels or sneakers, the latter being my preferred shoe option for everyday estilo. But when the occasion does call for something a little more spruced up, a one-piece pantaloon garment is literally the easiest way to look put together and really stand out from what everyone else is wearing.

So basically, jumpsuits make me wanna, well, jump.

Summer Maxi

Fashion Over Reason Luxe dress from MIMO Market Miami, Birkenstocks

Maxi dresses are the bomb dot com. They're one of those pieces that make summer dressing so easy and laid back. And depending on the cut, the print and the material, they all telegraph different vibes. Some are fancy, some way chill and others, like the one I'm wearing in this pic, are absolutely perfect for that mountain feel.

I was kind of going for the hippie vibe: the dress has a criss-cross lace-up in the back - with my round sunnies and my Briks, it was kind of ideal for the Colorado mountains, where I was vacationing a few weeks ago.

I got this dress at my favorite Miami boutique called MIMO Market, located in the Wynwood neighborhood - you know, where all the street art is. I may be a bit partial to the place, as my dear friends run it, but it truly is one of those places where you can always find an amazing piece while taking in the spirit of the neighborhood.

In the meantime, I've been abusing this piece and might have to make my way back to Florida soon to make some new acquisitions!
