Transitional weather presents the most fabulous opportunities for fashion moments. You know, when it's between seasons and building outfits is all about tactical layering. It's personally where I feel at my sartorial best, maybe because I was raised in a place where dressing for four distinct seasons was always a life necessity.

I especially love when layers are fluid and oversized and when proportions are toyed with, just like what's happening in this airy autumnal getup. Cropped plaid wide leg pants paired with a cropped flowy floral blouse, topped with a robe-like coat that drops almost all the way down to my ankles.

Elevated just the right amount of inches by these super sensible-yet-chic & Other Stories booties.

There's something so smart about a wide leg plaid trouser, but in classic me form, I couldn't resist the dichotic appeal of pairing them with some laissez-faire pieces that would likely very much go against anyone else's style intuitions.

Balance is something I constantly reiterate on this blog, and it's my best piece of fashion advice when I'm asked to impart my "wisdom." Counterbalancing vibes instead of leaning into one full throttle is something I instinctively apply to every single outfit I put together.

If I feel pulled too strongly in one direction, I have to tip the scales on the opposite end. Which is why you're seeing me here in office pants with a baggy long sleeve tee, a ski hat, and rock 'n roll accessories.

'Tis the season for Holiday parties, and all these festive soirées can really stump a girl when it comes to choosing an outfit. I've been attending lots of them this season, and instead of taking the easy road and defaulting to a safe all-black ensemble, I've been jazzing things up with punchy colors and super shiny fabrics. Because if you can't do it now, when can you?!

To help get you inspired for your next merry fête, I've gone ahead and broken down three looks I wore to events last week, along with the shopping creds. Don't forget there's also New Year's Eve to plan for!

For Days

If you've been a long-time reader or follower, you're likely familiar with my strong feelings about the importance of both environmental and ethical responsibility in the fashion industry. It seems strange coming from someone who enjoys aesthetics and encourages people to shop, but I like to push the needle in a more thoughtful direction—that of conscious consumerism, offering food for thought on making more calculated purchases based on need and evaluating the impact of fast fashion. I try to impart some understanding of sustainable fabrics and always highly encourage going the thrifting/vintage route.

When I caught wind of new t-shirt brand For Days, I knew I needed to help spread the word about it. So here's the gist: you pay $x for x tees, they send them to you and you keep what you like. A few months from now when you're over them, you send back what you're tired of wearing and they recycle the shirts, make new ones out of the fabric, and send you back your new selects.

These simple facts about the company are going to blow your mind (they did mine):

- Their tees are 100% organic cotton and dyes (aka better for the planet, for the farmers, and for your skin).
- They don't produce any unnecessary inventory, meaning there is zero contribution to landfills.
- Their manufacturing facilities use renewable energy and generate significantly less material waste than any regular clothing plant.
- They're in the process of designing a water reclamation program to reduce their environmental footprint.
- Head here to find out more about their packaging and shipping initiatives that are reinventing the über harmful, wasteful status quo.

After all that's said and done, what about the actual t-shirts—are they even cute?! They are DOPE. They offer a ton of variety to choose from, plus it's non-committal: you send things back free of cost when you're ready for a change. I'm particularly into this burgundy number with a retro vibe, seen in these pics. I also have the Heritage 90s crop and this perfect Heritage 70s slim crew. Obsessed with all of them and feel like there's no need to buy t-shirts ever again—this is the brand that keeps on giving.

This kind of manufacturing ideology should be the norm. Let's all get on board.

I recently discovered small NYC-based label Apricoss and fell hard for their pretty designs and small batch, slow fashion philosophy. They make some killer swimwear that's ultra-flattering, but this season they also came out with this super colorful tweed-like jacquard skirt that gave me all kinds of 80s Chanel vibes—love at first sight.

Nothing beats wearing a textured mini skirt with knee high boots. And to balance the whole thing, it had to be an oversized knit. Just need to throw on some sheer black pantyhose and a faux fur coat to brave the outdoors and I'm set.

Here we are, April 1st, and still feeling like it's the middle of February. What gives, Mother Nature? I understand us humans haven't been too kind to you and your beloved planet in the past, well, ever, but there's no need to punish us with a bad April Fool's joke. Waking up to 32F/0C is failing springtime spirit. No thanks!!

In the meantime, I will keep wearing florals for spring, because according to the mercury, it actually feels groundbreaking.

Layering, transitional weather, style tips, aritzia, dagne dover, wyeth eyewear, vans

I have a soft spot for transitional weather, and that goes for when we're both shedding layers for spring or adding them for fall. In my books, transitional weather is that between-season sweet spot when the temps are not too hot and not too cold.

It's a time of year where the outdoors prove themselves ideal for multiple blankets of clothing that counterintuitively yet seamlessly come together for magic sartorial moments. These pieces can be as heavy or as light as the wearer wishes, depending on where we're at in the calendar year.

During autumn, layering should be all about over-indexing on coziness to keep warm as the mercury plunges, whereas spring should be approached from the opposite mindset: ensuring your clothes will cater to both chilly mornings and midday temperature peaks.

The trick is to go with pieces that are complimentary and compatible. Mixing textures and colors can add some fun dimension to your look, while keeping things monochromatic can make for a super streamlined power 'fit. The opportunities are endless, the climate is yours to conquer, and the fashions are there for the taking.

Layering is king, and by default you are queen!

Warby Parker Felicity Summer Sun Collection Helene Heath

June is here, which means the days are longer, the sunshine is steady, and the official start of summer is right around the corner. Life is good. I like to do a little style reboot at the start of every season by adding a few new pieces (most often secondhand) to my sartorial roster to freshen things up.

And that goes for sunnies, especially for summertime. I've been wearing Warby Parker shades for many years, and working with them to launch their new Summer Sun collection was a total dream. Their new frames are bomb, and I'm wearing here the Felicity Striped Sassafras model. This pair is one of my favorite sunglasses shape of the season — they've got a 90s retro vibe that ironically feels very now.

All this to say that I've got my summer shades sorted... and so does Wally (scroll all the way down, you're welcome).

helene heath, brooklinen, linen robe, linen quilt

We're not huge on AC in our household, which means that our heavy duvet isn't the most welcomed sheet on the bed during the summer. Yet up until this year, we never had the luxury of a lighter blanket to replace it with once the weather warmed up, and most nights between June and September would turn into body temperature battles where the heat never failed to claim victory over the comforter. It habitually ended up in a rejected ball at our feet.

Northeast problems, amiright?

This recurring summertime issue had to be remedied, and I decided that this was going to be the year. A lighter bedspread didn't just feel like it would be more seasonally-appropriate, I also envisioned an aesthetic upgrade in the form of an airier, breezier, all-around better fitting post-solstice bedroom look. Spoiler alert: I wasn't wrong.

I found perfection in this linen quilt by Brooklinen, which sits perfectly above our top sheet, and provides just the right type of blanket coverage one might need when the outdoors heat up. The kicker? Brooklinen also made this impeccably crisp and cozy linen robe that I've been romping around the apartment in nonstop. To be honest, I might even wear it as dress at some point.

Bonus: got a lil perk for you guys too! You can get 10% off your Brooklinen order of over $50 with code helene10. I know their sheets are amazing, but I very strongly recommend this linen quilt and robe.

Brooklinen loungewear, morgan tank, bleecker short, helene heath

I have something very exciting to share. It's thrilling news because it involves being lazy, which titillates my Taurean senses. One of my favorite linens company, Brooklinen (as seen in my previous post), just launched loungewear, and it's literally everything i've ever aspired to don while sprawling around the house. Who wouldn't dream of unwinding in casual yet luxuriously cozy garb that doesn't feel precious?

Here I am demonstrating how to properly chill in the pieces, wearing the Morgan tank and the Bleecker short, and I can't recommend them enough. In fact, I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the pieces because, well, I simply need them all.

I've always loved denim skirts. They're incredibly versatile, can be dressed up or down, they transcend seasons and are unfailingly stylish.

While I've owned many iterations of them over the years—in various washes and styles—I had actually never experimented with any below-the-knee lengths. Until now.

This 3x1 calf-length denim skirt in a black wash is literally what my jean dreams are made of. It's ideal for warm NYC summers, seen here paired with linen and kitten heels, and it'll play a starring role in my transitional wardrobe as the weather starts to drop.

I've got some exciting things to discuss.

One, autumn has officially arrived: cue coziness, red wine, cashmere, and pumpkin spice for the enthusiasts (me, I confess).

And two, as of this month, I became a Jenni Kayne ambassador, which I'm so thrilled about. I've been a fan of the brand for many many years, and I'm really excited to introduce it to you guys if it's not already on your radar.

They make the most amazing elevated basics that feel as luxe as they are comfy, and their quality bar is super high, but their prices are also reasonable. Jenni Kayne is heaven!

I'm wearing two of their fall pieces here:

◦ A sumptuously oversized knit in a beautiful olive color.

◦ A gorge sleeveless sweater dress in camel, probably one of the most bougie shades that comes to mind.

They're both ideal layering pieces as we transition from warm to cool weather, and they'll be perfect once it gets really cold, too.

rails, 3x1 Empire Crop Flare jeans, miista shoes, vasic bag

There's truly nothing like a uniform of perfectly cut denim and a plush knit sweater when the weather starts cooling down. There's no going wrong with a combo that's comprised of two items like this.

Add a jazzy shoe, a statement bag, and some neck bling, and you've got yourself a fail-proof seasonal outfit.

Now about these jeans: they're my absolute favorite pair at the moment. Not only is the quality tangible, but they literally fit like a glove.

I would *highly* recommend investing in a pair.

Clean Beauty at CVS

This post is in partnership with CVS because they're looking to bring awareness to something that is near and dear to my personal values and convictions: clean beauty.

If you follow me on Instagram (you should, it's fun there!), then you're well aware of my proclivities for skincare, particularly my holistic approach and the importance I award to clean beauty products. I'm admittedly kind of a beauty snob knowing that too many big companies fail us on the ingredient front.

I try to be very mindful of what products I use and what's in them, along with which brands I endorse and what their practices are.

cvs clean beauty, pixi beauty, burts bees, thayers witch hazel, yesto, beauty 360

I know that clean beauty can seem daunting, unattainable, or even sometimes elitist. Most of the category sits at a higher price point, which is really unfair to consumers. It's crazy to me that not everyone can access high-quality skincare that's free of certain chemicals.

This is where CVS comes in—it's my local pharmacy btw, I go in there about once a week to pick things up, it's truly the best. And I love them even more now that I know how committed they are to making clean beauty accessible to everyone by carrying a huge range of brands with skincare lines that you can feel good about putting on your largest organ (your skin) every single day.

cvs clean beauty, pixi beauty, burts bees, thayers witch hazel, yesto, beauty 360

I'm also incredibly pleased to let you know that CVS has pledged to remove parabens and phthalates from hundreds of store brand beauty and personal care products by 2020. How's that for monumental?

In the meantime, look for the green clean sticker on the CVS Health and Beauty 360 products that says "Paraben and Phthalate Free" to ensure you're getting the good stuff, and keep reading to see some of my personal favorites.

____________

The Burt's Bees products are always standouts, here we have the cuticle wax ('tis the season! It's also great for dry elbows btw) and the cleansing oil. I loveeee cleansing oils.

The Pixi Glow Tonic is also an all-time fav. It didn't get its cult status for nothing—this guy is a real superstar. It's an acid exfoliant that will clear your skin and straight up make you glow.

The Thayers Witch Hazel is another amazing cult classic — a super soothing toner with healing properties.

cvs clean beauty, pixi beauty, burts bees, thayers witch hazel, yesto, beauty 360

Now for maybe my favorite category — masks. CVS has a ton of clean options for individual sheet masks that are totally clutch for traveling.

Below I have the Beauty 360 Purifying Grapefruit & Charcoal mask and the Beauty 360 Plumping mask, which are both fantastic.

Also awesome for travel are the Beauty 360 Cleansing Towelettes and the Charcoal Pore Strips (perhaps the most satisfying skincare item, like, ever).

cvs clean beauty, pixi beauty, burts bees, thayers witch hazel, yesto, beauty 360

There are so many awesome clean beauty options at CVS, all at an accessible price point and for a range of solutions. It makes me so happy to finally see this category being democratized — anyone can now have access to products that are free from these chemicals..

Time to take a field trip to CVS :)
